Multimedia: means "multiple media" or "a combination of media"

Hypermedia: means "linked media" or "interactive media"   Today's hypermedia systems in which info is stored in various media are connected (internet)

The combination of media(video and audio with text) makes them multimedia; the ability to get from one media/info element to another makes them hypermedia.

5 hypermedia formats:
1. Commercial hypermedia software packages
2. Interactive presentation software
3. Audio/video production and editing systems
4. Hypermedia design and development programs

Most important characteristic of hypermedia is its ability to encourage students to be proactive learners

Creation of hypermedia products requires that learners constantly make decisions and evaluate progress thus applying higher order thinking skills.

4 Kinds of multi/hypermedia design and development tools
1.  Interactive presentation hypermedia
2.  Audio/video production and editing systems
3.  Hypermedia production software
4.  Virtual environments
